My main focus in practice is helping clients optimise their metabolic health for a super good reason!
✨It is the foundation of feeling well ✨
Metabolic health is often overlooked. We don’t always connect the dots between how we feel and how well our metabolism is functioning, yet it may be the driving force behind many ongoing health concerns.
Poor metabolic health commonly shows up as everyday symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, sugar cravings, bloating, low mood, anxiety, difficulty with weight, and, ultimately, how well or unwell we feel every single day.
Think of glucose regulation and insulin as the master conductors sitting above:
💛 How well your thyroid functions
💛 How regulated your sex hormones are (oestrogen and progesterone)
💛 The rhythm of your stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline)
💛 How hungry you feel, via leptin and ghrelin (hunger and satiety hormones)
💛 Levels of inflammation and pain throughout the body
Many of the symptoms people experience are downstream consequences of poor glucose and insulin regulation. Importantly, a “normal” blood glucose reading does not necessarily mean your glucose or insulin regulation is working optimally.
Optimising your metabolic health is not just about weight loss, which can be part of the picture, but is important for everyone, at any size, and is about having the energy to get through your day, being pain-free, and having stable, balanced moods without ongoing anxiety.
Good metabolic health reduces the risk of and improves -
🧡 Cardiovascular disease
🧡 Type 2 diabetes
🧡 Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
🧡 Certain cancers
🧡 Chronic Pain - Lower inflammation can alleviate symptoms of conditions like arthritis.
🧡 Improved Focus and Memory - Stable blood glucose supports cognitive function and brain health.
🧡 Neurodegenerative Diseases - Reduced oxidative stress and inflammation protect against conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia.
🧡 Mental and emotional health - Improved metabolic health balances hormones and neurotransmitters that regulate mood.
🧡 Chronic stress - Better cortisol regulation leads to improved stress management.
🧡 Healthy Thyroid Function - Supports metabolism, energy levels, and overall well-being.
🧡 How you transition through menopause - Reduces the severity of symptoms and lowers the risk of chronic health conditions.
🧡 Slower Ageing Process - Lower inflammation and oxidative stress contribute to healthier ageing.
🧡 Better immune system and resilience to viruses and infections.
😮💨 It is not everything, but it is a lot! 🎉
With good metabolic health, you experience vitality, consistent energy, and a sense of overall well-being. Hormones and mood feel more stable, inflammation and pain are reduced, and your body feels easier to live in.
This is why I focus so heavily on metabolic health - because it is the foundation of feeling well, and the one change that can profoundly improve how your body feels and functions.
